Trapshooting

The Dundee Sportsman’s Club is proud to be home to the Dundee Schools Trapshooting Team. For better than 15 years we’ve sponsored and hosted the Dundee School Team. For a handful of years the Ida Trap team practiced at our club, as well. They continued to grow and moved on to to their own place.

For five years now and counting, we’ve welcomed the Saline Schools Trap team to practice and compete at our Club. So as you can see, we thrive in supporting youth shooting sports. Some of the past competing teams have had great success including a 3rd & a 5th at the SCTP National Competitions of which most states have representatives from their home state.

Currently, Dundee is the reigning Michigan State Champion. It’s been 4 years straight going for a 5th. They have a good chance at winning again this June. We host at least one competition a year just for the youth. It’s great to see the future of our Club in action!

We welcome shooters of all abilities. Inexperienced? No problem. Shooters can improve by shooting with the more experienced league members. Our experienced shooters are more than happy to share their knowledge.

More About Trap Shooting: Trapshooting, is also called ‘clay-pigeon shooting’, or ‘down-the-line shooting’. The sport consists of participants using shotguns for shooting at saucer-shaped clay targets. These targets are flung into the air from a spring loaded device called a ‘trap’. A later variant of trap shooting called ‘skeet shooting’, is also included in the sport of trapshooting.

Trapshooting has been enjoyed throughout the countries of the world since the late 18th century. At that time, real birds were used. Real birds were placed in traps and then released. Since the late 1800’s, real birds have been replaced with artificial “birds”. Trap shooting is fun and stimulating. We are proud to be a part of this great sport & hope you will join us!
